Andy Taylor has the ultimate trucking dream job. The driver from Kannapolis, N. C., hauls race cars for Rusty Wallace Racing and loves every minute of it. “I grew up as a NASCAR fan and always followed the sport,” Taylor says.“It’s a great privilege to haul cars for Rusty Wallace racing.” Taylor has been trucking for 22 years, including 15 years as an owner-operator. He’s been involved in hauling for NASCAR teams for the past seven years, and has been on board with Rusty Wallace racing since September 2008. He drives a 2007 black Freightliner Coronado with the two race cars – the primary car and back-up car – secured inside the trailer. “It causes a sensation when I’m traveling down the road or stopped at a truckstop,” he says. “People wave, blow their horns and hang out the window taking cell phone pictures. It’s a blast to see how much energy this truck creates.”
While he admits he’s had some great strokes of luck landing NASCAR gigs, he’s humble about his trucking profession. “I’m grateful to be out there with my fellow truck drivers doing a hard day’s work,” he says. He credits 5-Hour Energy for giving him an extra boost of energy. “I was a big fan of 5-Hour Energy even before I
started hauling for Wallace,” he says.
Taylor is married to Cheryl and has four children, Lindsey, 22, Courtney, 20, Austin, 18, and Drew, 12. Drew travels with him in the summer and carries on the family tradition of loving the whole NASCAR scene. “The Wallace family is a class act,” Taylor says. “Steve and his dad Rusty are great guys and treat everyone on the team like
family. It’s such an honor to haul for them.”
