Question: What kind of reaction do you get when you are hauling the cars to a race?
Answer: First of all, it’s a great honor to haul for Rusty Wallace Racing. I’ve always loved NASCAR and it’s a blast to work for this group. I’m a trucker though, just like my fellow truckers out there. We all have something in common; we drive a truck for a living. I appreciate my job and appreciate the hard work of all truckers.
Before I head out, I make sure I’ve thoroughly cleaned the truck and polished all the chrome until everything shines. I do the pre-trip inspections and go over every detail including planning the trip. When I get to a truck stop, there’s always a lot of interest in my cargo, especially right before a big race. It’s amazing to see how much excitement the car generates. When I’m driving down the highway, four-wheelers will blow their horns and wave at me on the road and truckers will comment on the CB or wave. Everyone wants to wish us luck or just express their love of NASCAR.

Question: How do they get all the trucks parked before the race?
Answer: I usually arrive two days before the trucks are staged. I know all the other truckers and we hang out, drinking coffee and socializing. I’m usually drinking 5 Hour Energy. Beginning at 8 a.m. sharp, the trucks are called over Channel 11 in a strict pecking order. The previous year’s champion parks first and is followed by the trucks hauling the car that’s currently in first place. Then, the rest of the trucks hauling the 43 cars are parked in order of their ranking. We’ll park mid-pack for the first race in Daytona. The staging takes less than an hour and then the rush is on to unload. That’s when the adrenaline really starts kicking in!
